The latest JRI studies: Ulcerative colitis patients treated with gut microbes from healthy donors have better outcomes according to a study published April 15 in Cell Host & Microbe. To read more, click here. According to a study published March 10 in Immunity, a class of immune cells, called type 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), push themselves into an inflammatory state by producing large quantities of a serotonin-making enzyme. The ILC2s are much impaired without the enzyme. The finding suggests possibilities for new treatments targeting ILC2s. To read more, click here. Published April 10 in Science, a study reveals hepcidin, an iron-regulating molecule, is produced by the immune system and restricts gut bacteria growth after an intestinal injury, helping to heal. The study could have important implications for treating gastrointestinal diseases that damage the lining of the intestines. To read more, click here.
