Dr. Mohammad Arifuzzaman is an immunologist and an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine. He obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh. He received his Ph.D. from Duke University studying innate immune defense mechanisms. Dr. Arifuzzaman completed his post-doctoral training at Weill Cornell Medicine where he identified a new immunoregulatory pathway by which diet and intestinal microbiota regulate type 2 inflammation.
Dr. Arifuzzaman has developed a research program focused on understanding how environmental factors, including signals from diet and microbiota, regulate the immune system in the context of health and disease. His research program operates at the intersection of immunology, microbiology, and chemical biology, employing cutting-edge techniques to investigate the complex interactions between nutrition, microbial metabolism, and the host immune system. Dr. Arifuzzaman is funded by an NIAID K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award and has been the recipient of 2024 Tri-institutional Breakout Prize for Junior Investigators.
